Welcome to Native Studies 30 Online Classroom
Welcome back, I am sure it will take you a few days to get into the swing of things so here is a snapshot of our first week. If have some time, browse through the other class pages to familiarize yourself with the course and expectations.
Monday August 30th
Students in interviews all day with homeroom teachers. Make sure to tell them everything that they need to help you succeed!
Tuesday August 31st
And so it begins. Today we will cover the basics like; rules, assessment, and the dreaded Dialectic Journal. After the basics are covered I want to jump right in to the deep end and watch a great video called “Ballad of Crowfoot”. I will post the link for the video after we watch it in class in case you want to see it again! Once you have seen the video, you will use your experience to write your first dialectic journal entry.

Wednesday September 1st
Waste not want not and time is of the essence, so we will be hard at work today. In case anyone is looking for them, I handed out the lyrics of the “Ballad of Crowfoot” first thing. After giving you a chance to read the lyrics and add to your journal, we started the day with a short true and false quiz. The major part of our class however was group Graffitti (the non-spray-paint kind). We barely had time to finish and will wrap it up tomorrow.
Thursday September 2nd
First “short day” of the year, so buckle up it breezes by. We are going to use the time today to cover questions raised in yesterday’s class. If we get through all of the questions, I am hoping to share a short reading that discusses the connection between language and oppression.
Friday September 3rd
Wow Friday comes so quickly this time of year. We will begin class by skimming news sources for First Nations issues. After briefly discussing the news we will review and discuss the article from yesterday. I imagine that you will be able to make some connections between the two topics very quickly.
