10 Minutes to Understanding Darfur

An amazing opportunity arises

Rich HitchensAugust 3, 2010 at 10:29pmSubject: Holocaust Mission UpdateGreetings from Kigali!

As you know from last year’s trip, next summer, we will be taking a group of teachers to Germany, Ukraine, and Poland, visiting Berlin, Kiev, Warsaw, and Krakow. While in Europe before going to Rwanda, I had the chance to do preliminary work in Kiev and Warsaw, and, suffice it to say, the trip will be another unbelievable experience (e.g. meeting with Polish rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust).

We will be moving ahead on this trip after the summer course next week, and we anticipate having something quite firm by September. Because we have had so much interest in the trip from teachers from all over the country, it is fair to say that the trip will ultimately be over-subscribed. In fact, based on interest thus far, I would say that we are already filled.

I will start taking deposits – $500.00 – to guarantee spots in September, and, if you really want to go on this trip, it will behoove you make your deposit early. Because you participated in the trip to Rwanda, I want to give you first crack at the available spots. And, since I know all of you, don’t hesitate to contact me if you want to go on the trip, but you just need a little bit of time with a deposit.

Of course, the timetables for flights are not yet available, so we cannot be precise with dates, but we are looking at a weekend pre-departure course in Toronto beginning on the 8th of July. Like with Rwanda, by the time we consider the pre-departure weekend, we will be gone about three weeks, as we have a lot of geography to cover. We anticipate the cost coming in something close to the Rwanda trip, as we save on airfare but make it up on ground travel and accommodations. We will be staying in much comfier accommodations than our beloved Centre Saint-Paul.

Warmest personal regards.

Now the final cost of Rwanda for teacher travellers was $3,750.00 total, which included all group meals on the ground, airfare and double accomodation.  Let the fundraising begin!
